/Born in Tunisia to Sicilian parents, at the age of 10 he arrived in Rome.
Gifted since his youth with a remarkable flexibility and creative expressiveness, both as an advertising graphic designer and as an illustrator and cartoonist, he is encouraged to enter the world of cinema advertising billboard by his older brother Vito Napoli, illustrator and graphic designer of considerable artistic depth.

/He began working for film distribution companies, particularly Rank, and began making movie posters and receiving his first awards. The then head of the advertising office of Walt Disney, Dottarelli shows a deep esteem and admiration for the work of Bruno, entrusting him with the realization of the posters of the great classics, continuing in the following years to be the only italian illustrator for the films of the Burbank company. The artistic production is however not limited to the Disney world and the film’s production graphic, in the ’70s and ’80s is perhaps the most important creator of circus posters in Italy and among the largest in Europe.

/Over the years there have been many direct awards from producers, directors and authors (for example Frank Oz of the Muppets, Peyo author of the Smurfs).

/He died in 2003 following illness at only 62 years, after a period of artistic inactivity due to the changed production system and post-production advertising graphics.

Nostro padre / Our father

/

” No computer screens. No technology.

Just paper, brushes, paint, and the sound of classical music filling the studio.

A cigarette was always burning in the ashtray. There was always a bag of licorice on the table. That was enough to know a new movie poster was taking shape.

Even a quick sketch or a rough draft could already be beautiful.

When he worked, it felt like he was living in a world of his own. Maybe he really was.

Our father had a rare gift. He could capture the essence of a film without ever seeing it. With just a few reference photos and an incredible imagination, he turned a story into an image that sparked the imagination of everyone who looked at it.

He was one of the great illustrators of Italian cinema. An artist, a graphic designer, and a photographer. There was magic in his hands.

To us, he was simply our dad. A wonderful dad.

This was the art of his work. A profession that, sadly, disappeared along with him.”
